BYU - Natives Engaged in Alzheimer's Research

Notes to Authors and Presenters

  • This Manuscript and Presentation Proposal should be completed and submitted only after a draft manuscript/presentation is prepared. Upon submission, the proposal and manuscript/presentation will be reviewed by the NEAR Publication and Presentations (P&P) Committee. Our goal is to review all submissions within two weeks. A manuscript approved by the P&P Committee will be forwarded to the Governance Board for a final review and approval. Once all approvals are met, the lead author may submit to the target journal or event.
  • It is possible to submit an abstract for a conference presentation or poster simultaneously to both the event and the Governance Board. Prior review and approval by the Governance Board is required before the presentation at the event takes place.
  • Authors/presenters are responsible for maintaining appropriate institutional IRB coverage (submission and approval).
  • Submission of a manuscript/presentation for review implies that all co-authors have reviewed and approved of the drafts.
  • All papers and presentations will require a NEAR Investigator, and sometimes a NEAR Analyst (as needed), as co-authors; authorship recommendations will be made at the proposal approval stage based on the data/tissue used and analyses performed.

The NIH instituted a Public Access Policy in April 2008 which ensures that the public has access to the published results of NIH funded research. It is your responsibility to upload manuscripts to PubMed Central whenever the journal is not in compliance with this policy. Four files about the public access policy from NIH public access are posted here under Publications, Policies & Forms. This page indicates which journals automatically upload articles to PubMed central.

NEAR is a National Institute on Aging-funded project, which seeks to expand treatment and research on Alzheimer's disease and dementia in American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander groups.
